iFM 93.9 Launches Website Soon, Crushes Love Radio and DWRR

After a significant upgrade on their broadcast equipment, Metro Manila’s Pwede station is now launching its own website – www.ifm.com.ph. Don’t be frustrated though, the site is still under construction. But definitely, we’ll be expecting exciting things especially now that the station is all up and ready for a big battle.
I personally talked to one of the execs at iFM Manila and they said they will be giving Love Radio, 101.9 DWRR and Barangay LS a run for their money. Seriously, I am 100% confident that iFM will be leading the MM market within the year. Here’s why:
- Among the radio stations in the Manila, particularly the MASA ones, iFM has the smartest programming and production. iFM may not have a Nicole-Hyala or Chris-Tsuper, but the station definitely has a good selection of music. Just give 93.9 a listen, and you will hear the difference.
- And speaking of difference – iFM, as mentioned earlier, just upgraded its transmitter. I believe it’s now broadcasting the most if not all of Luzon. But it’s not just only all about COVERAGE, it’s also about CLARITY. When you tune to 93.9 right now, you’ll find it hard to tell the difference between listening to a CD and iFM.
- iFM is creative. You will find most of its segments very original like the Horoscope ni Tomas, And Mahiwagang Ballpen and many more.
iFM is the first and only radio station in the Philippines that broadcasts in HD. HD Radio or High Definition Radio is now the latest radio broadcast technology in US. In time, HD Radio will replace analog radio broadcast, which really sounds really like HDTVs replacing big bulky tube TVs. HD Radio is digital which means it can transmit data like the song title or weather report which will appear on the ticker of an HD Radio set. Another remarkable thing about HD Radio is you can listen to a variety of music channels from just one radio station frequency.
I also found out that iFM Cebu and Davao are next in the line of broadcast upgrades. Can’t wait for iFM to rule.
There are only a handful of radio stations in the Philippines that don’t sacrifice quality programming for commercialism, iFM is one of them. My hats off to Radio Mindanao Network for coming up with brilliant ideas for radio listeners. Keep it up and crush those radio stations that are running only after money!

I’m not an i-fm listener. I’m a die-hard star-fm/bomboradyo listeners way back during my younger days. Medyo mayabang lang an dating ng article but you guys just don’t who fred m davis is. He has a good resume when in radio (fm) industry. Love Radio, For Life, No Fm, whatever….. kayo walang K magyabang. All your fromats were copied from 102.7 Star FM which was brought by Mr Davis from Iloilo in 1995. Former Radio Station Manager of 90.7 DZMB Mr JIM River was a batchmate of Mr Davis as DJ’s of 99.5 RF Iloilo (now 99.5 Star FM Iloilo). They were both pirated by MBC. Jim River was brought to Manila to handle DZMB (nong easy listening pa sila). Fred Davis was left in Iloilo handling 97.5 DYMB Iloilo. 99.5RF was the leader during that time but when FMD handled 97.5 DYMB di na maka-ungos ang 99.5RF not until 1995. During the mid-90’s Davis went back to Bombo Radyo as Vice Pres and COO for FM Div. All these baduy/pang masa format came from the province. When I first came to Manila, ibang-iba ang naririning ko kesa don sa probinsya. Only in 1995 when FMD, Raymond Ryan, Janice, etc (all ilonggo Jocks) came and then I heard again the music the music that I used to hear.

Hello to all dj’s, crews, technical supports, all staff of 93.9 IFM! Well, iba talaga yung pakiramdam kapag pagod ka… overloaded ang mind mo sa mga problems sa bahay, school or sa office, mabigat ang feeling dahil nakaaway mo ang brother, sister, boyfriend or girlfriend mo… mapapatula na lang tayo at masasabing ” Hay BUHAY nga naman” di ba? usually yan ang nasasabi ng karamihan sa mga Pilipino. Pero may secret ako dyan para di ko maramdaman ang bigat ng buhay… What Im gonna do is seat comfortably or lay down to your bed, open your radio, tune in to 93.9 and from then on mapapakinggan nyo ang makukulit na dj’s na magpapakiliti sa puso nyo dahilan sa mga kulitan at tawanan… sa mga music na ipe-play nila, talagang mag-eenjoy ka! kung ako yayayain ng mahal ko na magpakasal pero di pa ako ready, simple lang, sasabihin ko sa kanya ung real reason ko, i will let him know d pa ako ready, afterall, kung mahal naman talaga niya ako mai-in-tindihan niya ako, besides, di ba kailangan ang honesty sa isang relationship, and if di ko makaya or magawang maging honest sa kanya, more than likely thats another thing to consider, malamang d pa talaga ako dapat magpakasal, and also i wouldn’t wanna be married sa isang tao na di ko magawang maging honest. i don’t wanna mislead him with lies, and if i already did, i don’t wanna keep it that way. gaya nga ng sabi sa isang song, i’d rather hurt you honestly than mis-lead you with a lie. para po sa akin dj yumi ang pagiging tapat ang pinaka tamang gawin.kung pa2loy ko pong itatago na hindi ko pala siya mahal sa tingin ko po mas lalo ko lang po siyang masasaktan at patuloy na paaasahin,at para naman sa side ko hindi rin naman ako magiging masaya kung pa2loy ko pong lolokohin ang sarili ko at makisama sa taong hindi ko naman totoong mahal…

hi po, im 20 yr.old student meron po akong cush sa school nung una just infatuation lang but nung tumagal na develop na po ako sa kanya. but pinipigilan ko po kasi kelan lang po kami nag kakilala almost 4 months palang po ang lalaki sya. so i decided na pigilan ang feelings ko sa kanya and gumawa pa nga po ko dahilan para mag away kami but mo effect and ironicaly mas nag kalapit pa nga po kami. i realy try my best to get apart but la parin mas nadevelop pa po ako sa kanya ng sobra kahit na alam kong ako rin po ang talo sa huli i decided to grab this feeling. then one time nung day na yalagang pinag tulakan ko na sya and di ko sya talaga pinapansin as ing to the highest level of levelness. that time nag kayayaan ung tropa na mag inuman sa bahay ng isa naming frend sabi ko di ako makakarating kasi d ako pwede but nag karoon ako ng pagkakataong makatakas sa amin kaya pumunta ako kaso ang problema hindi ko alam kung saan yun inisketch sya saken ng frend ko pero ang hirap hanapin and no choice ko kaya pinuntahan ko yung crush at nag pasama ako sa kanya. nung pumunta ako ssa kanila nagulat sya kasi alam nya galit ako sa kanya and then sabi ko no choice lang ako kaya pumunta ako sa kanila. then sinamahan nya ko. pag dating namin don nagulat yung mga frends namin bakit kami magkasama then it all begun nag kainuman alam ko na alam nya na may feelings ako sa kanya pero ng alam nya crush lang but i felt na mas deep pa don. tapos nag kausap kami nag sabihan ng feelings and sama ng loob nasabi ko yung bagay na yon and syempre lalaki sya hindi sy pumayag kaya i felt so depress sabi nya wag daw sya and lalayo na daw sya kung ganon sabi wag kasi nasakin nmn yung problema kaya wag nyang ilayo yung loob nya sa tropa dahil sa kin but hindi nmn kami nag iwasan peros since joker na talaga sya sweet pero ngayon mas offending na yung mga jokes nya minsan nga napahiya na nga ako dahil don pero stilll ang sweet parin nya saken parang mas naging close kami ngayon kaya lang mahilig na sya mag joke ng masaket kahit sabihan sy ng iba naming frend kaya ang hirap po ng sitwasyon ko ngayon. so payuhan nyo nmn po sana ako. more powers and godbless. at nicole kung ikaw ang engkan dyosa ako nmn ang panginoon ng mga engkan dyosa kaya mag bigay pugay ka limuhod ka sa aking harapan i footspa mo ang aking paa sa pamamagitan ng iyong dila.(jokes)

In August 1996, WRR regenerated itself into a mainstream pop music station in response to growing trend of “masa” radio or FM radio for the masses launched by 102.7 Star FM a year earlier. This format plays not only love songs, but also dance and rock hits. Recently though, whenever its on-air personalities would introduce the station, they have dropped the call letters (WRR) and would just say “Alalalalam mo na yan, 101.9 For Life! (You know it, 101.9 For Life!) and “Bespren” For Life! (Friend, For Life!). Rumours are currently circulating that the station will again reformat sometime in the last quarter of 2008.at least mababawasan na ng commercial station…mukhang automation na gagawin sa station sayang kasi ang kita sa mga talent na dj…na paulit ulit and adlib na walang kuwenta…
GUSTO KO LANG PO MALAMAN NG IBANG LISTNERS NG iFM NA MUKHANG NAGSSTART NA YUNG PAG REFORMAT NG PROGRAMS.. Recently though, whenever its on-air personalities would introduce the station, they have dropped the call letters (WRR) and would just say “Alalalalam mo na yan, 101.9 For Life! (You know it, 101.9 For Life!) and “Bespren” For Life! (Friend, For Life!). Rumours are currently circulating that the station will again reformat sometime in the last quarter of 2008.at least mababawasan na ng commercial station…mukhang automation na gagawin sa station sayang kasi ang kita sa mga talent na dj…na paulit ulit and adlib na walang kuwenta…

puro kayo asaran… makinig na lang kayo kung saang radio station nyo gusto… may kanya kanyang tenga naman kyo, kung san masarap makining ng music dun kyo. basta kaming maka IFM d2 lang kami makikinig.basta “WALANG BASTUSAN NG FM RADIO”….

Hi!Im marz of cebu para sa akin hindi tamang mag-away-away kayo para sa isang bagay lng pero may comment ako para kay Ms.Daisy Wong korean kaba at hindi mo maintindihan anung masama sa horoscope ni mang tomas?Ito ay nagbibigay lang nang katatawanan sa mga taong nakikinig sa ifm para sa akin walang masama duon.Dati naiinis din akong makinig doon pero nang marinig ko muli ito nakakatawa nga eh nakakaalis ng stress sa mga taong maraming problema sa buhay….Para sa akin plz wag nga kayong mag-away…

mr.rafael si davis ay isang technician sa ilo-ilo sa love radio dun,at nag apply siya ke mr.florete me ari ng bombo radyo tapos pinadala si fred sa cebu na gentle wind fm ang dala niyang programming dun ay yung ke mr.locero na programming concept tapos naging effective yung sa cebu kaya dinala dito si fred davis sa manila na para buksan muli ang 102.7 gentle wind to star fm…..

Leo Gonzalez, Actually Kung si Fred Davis ginaya nya lang ng programming kay gerry na dinala nya sa 102.7 Star Fm, Nagumpisa siya sa 102.7 Star Fm, Tapos sumunod pa ang 90.7 Love Radio sa pagiging Masa Tapos sumunod pa yon Yes Fm 101.1 na pagiging Masa, Galing din naman si Fred Davis sa 90.7 Love Radio at Yes Fm 101.1. Fred Davis used the name Raymond Ryan as a DJ Before in 90.7 Love Radio and Yes Fm 101.1 and at the same time was station manager before in 90.7 Love Radio and Yes Fm 101.1. Fred Davis is known as the purveyor of Jologity in Fm Radio, responsible for making Star Fm, Love Radio and Yes Fm successful stations. I Fm is almost like 90.7 Love Radio and Yes Fm 101.1 as far as its format is concerned. Not only that some former DJ’s of 90.7 Love Radio and Yes Fm 101.1 are with I Fm Now.

mga guys ang tamang programming sa fm radio ay 97 dot 9 Home Radio,Hindi “JOLOGS” at Tamang Tama sa Mga taong Mahilig sa Music,Hindi Katulad ng Mga Commercial Stations Na nakaka irita pati mga dj’s walang alam na adlib puro kabastusan yan ba ang tamang radio station kaya mga ugali ng pinoy nagiging bastos….dapat ang radio station “ENTERTAIMENT” at More Music….

hello po sa inyo. thanks kay daisy wong sa pag puna mo sa comment ko. my point lang naman is that I appreciate radio stations that do their best para ma improve nila ang quality ng kanilang broadcast content — this includes the DJs, the programs, the special segments, everything from programming to production. it so happens din lang na this article is focusing on iFM’s efforts, so naghats off ako sa kanila.
Yes, HD Radio may not be a hit for the masa this time. Kaya lang ang good side kasi nito is that iFM is showing its potential, capabilities, resources and the guts to go extra mile para lang mapagbuti ang kanilang station.
di naman kailangan nating ipagbangga-bangga ang mga radio stations, mabuti nga yan na marami sila, kahit sabihin pa natin pare pareho din ang ilan sa mga gimiks nila. competition is good.

Hay naku Daisy Wong, lumabas din ang tunay na kulay mo, pa “ibalik ang kc ka pa dyan”, yun naman pala Love Radio ang pinakikinggan mo. Mas maganda siguro kung magsulat ka ng sarili mong artikulo at isa-isahin mo ang mga puntos na gusto mong sabihin tungkol sa Love Radio hindi yung nagkokomento ka ng kung anu-ano. Radio imaging ang pinag-uusapan dito, at ikaw ang nag umpisa ng ratings ek ek. Eh ang Love Radio nga ang numero unong mapagyabang ng ratings nila e.
Bastos ang horoscope ni mang tomas? E si nicole hyala,christsuper, sexy terry, missy hista, mga santo? Love Radio is the one feeding GARBAGE to the masa, content-wise, quality-wise, and music-wise.

hello po, hindi po ako against sa mga masa stations ha or sa love radio or sa for life. kaya lang id like to stress na wala namang masama sa article na to. pinapakita lang ng writer na kung anong ginagawa ng ifm para magdominate eto.i dont see any problme with this, in fact, mas okay nga to kasi its for the good of us listeners naman kasi. if we hear the same thing on radio na walang mga improvement or innovation, kawawa rin tayo, we are left with choices that are very less in quality.

To Daisy Wong. What’s wrong with you? Better check the latest survey of KBP-RRC. IFM is number 4. So NASA TOP 5 SIYA. You should look up reference materials before you state a claim, “BAKA” is a dangerous word. “BAKA” sumemplang ka sa mga debate kapag wala kang basehan. Yun lang. If you want to listen to high-end stations, then do so, this is a free country.

Rick Spade, Actually before Fred M. Davis was with I Fm, he pioneered the “Pang-Masa” Fm Radio Programming in Bombo Radyo’s Star Fm, and MBC’s Love Radio and Yes Fm, MBC and Bombo Radyo pioneered the “Pang-Masa” Fm Radio Programming, that’s why he was responsible for turning RMN’s KC FM to I Fm, The “Pang-Masa” Fm Radio Programming of Fred M. Davis was a big shock all over the Philippines and all over the country, It was a great programming especially for the “Masa” Big Profit, Big Market. Aside from Fred M. Davis who pioneered Bombo Radyo’s Star Fm, MBC’s Love Radio and Yes Fm and RMN’s I Fm, Mike Enriquez did this with GMA’s Campus Radio and Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM to Barangay LS 97.1 Ayos! and it also went to ABS-CBN’s WRR 101.9 and MOR For Life Radio Stations, The “Pang-Masa” Fm Radio Programming came from Bombo Radyo’s Star Fm and became a trend in Fm Radio Programming for MBC’s Love Radio, Yes Fm, Hot Fm, RMN’s I Fm, Bombo Radyo’s Star Fm, GMA’s Barangay LS and Campus Radio and ABS-CBN’s WRR 101.9 and MOR For Life Radio Stations that’s why the former Campus Radio had to be resurrected at Campus 99.5 since GMA’s Radio Stations are all Pang-Masa which is Campus Radio of GMA and Barangay LS 97.1.

My point is..IFM hinde pa number 1…kung sino man ang nagsulat nito IFM crushes Love Radio and DWRR, ang yabang mo..pano mo ma crushed hindi pa nga number 1..baka sa ratings ngayon ang ifm wala sa top 5…Kung Sino man may ari ng IFM ..ibalik niya na sa KC..napakasaya talaga noon..di tulad ngayon puro horoscope and jingle nalang na walang sense…”puede..puede…ibalik sa kc?”

Well… Going back to Rafael citing the similarities of iFM and Home Radio. It’s a matter of two great old-school programmers having the same “wave-length”. Fred M. Davis of iFM and Nestor G. Doria of Home Radio. I’m proud to say I’ve worked with both of them.
I also miss the old 93.9 WKC. But… most people in radio believe and insist that the best way to survive is to go masa. Maybe they really just don’t know how high-end stations like the Vera Group pull it off.

From what I know about I Fm, The one who thought of turning KC FM into I Fm was Fred Davis who used to be with MBC and Bombo Radyo Philippines and what I know Fred Davis was the one responsible for making Star Fm, Love Radio and Yes Fm the top 3 Masa Stations in the Country and what I know Fred Davis was the manager of MBC Stations Love Radio and Yes Fm, Now that Fred Davis is with I Fm almost all the Masa Stations have the same format as Love Radio, this is the reason why the “Kadyut Lang and Kukurukuku” thing became mainstream, that explains why a lot of Masa Stations have followed Love Radio and that is why Love Radio is still the No. 1 Station for 5 years already Many Masa Fm Stations are like that that’s business.

I used to listen to KC before, they dominated the airwaves before, pero ang ifm …hindi pa…wala pang na prove..so ayosin niyo pa, at wag kayong mayabang.

thank you for your comment Rafael. I certainly agree that type of music played at iFM has some influences of Home Radio. However, I am confident that amongst the C-D-E marketed radio station, iFM has the most attractive and appealing format. iFM when it started in early 00s, was designed to be a nose-dive masa station, however, the choice of music for their market has changed over the last 5 years and iFM needed to reflect that changes on their programming. Kaya nga yung ibang mga masa stations, yung pini play nilang music ganun pa rin. walang pinagbago. its because they are afraid to come up with new ideas.

I like the music of I Fm, Even if it has been years since DWKC/KC FM went off the air, I have noticed the music of I Fm has a bit of influence of KC Fm and has a bit of influence from 97.9 Home Radio, Magic 89.9, Monster Radio RX 93.1 and 99.5 Campus Fm, but sometimes it’s like other Masa Stations like 101.9 For Life! and 102.7 Star Fm, but mostly The Music of I Fm is similar to 97.9 Home Radio cause what I hear also in Home Radio is also the same as I Fm, Parang yung gumagawa ng playlist kasama din sa batch na pumalit sa KC FM at kasama din sa playlist ng 97.9 Home Radio. It’s good that I Fm has played a bit of Jologs and Baduy Music, Now I Fm is playing good music unlike the first 3 years of I Fm From June 2002-Early 2005 may Jologs and Baduy Music pa kay Lito Camo but then in 2005, when I Fm reformatted, parang may konting influence siya ng 97.9 Home Radio.
